03rd May 2011 - Windowgate...
I am referring to the ongoing debate between fresh air versus air conditioning in our office. I wonder if all offices are divided on this matter as it certainly seems to be a bone of contention here at Circle Square.
The benefits of fresh air are obvious although it is debateable how “fresh” the air really is in central London, particularly with the interminable drilling of the pedestrianised walkway on Sicilian Avenue right outside our office. However, for the record I am firmly in the “fresh air” camp. Having worked in offices for too long where the air conditioning is turned up to “freezing” all year round and no matter what the temperature outside, I have to keep a permanent set of winter garments in the office to offset a daily case of goose bumps. Not to mention the spread of colds and general bugs that seem to perpetuate far more quickly thanks to the air con. And while I’m on the subject as a contact lens wearer I find it irritates and dries my eyes out and generally sucks the moisture out of the air in general.
So I think we’re all agreed, I’m not a fan!

Once the dreary, wet and cold winter is behind us, the scent of spring and summer brings with it the promise of warm and balmy evenings, summer holidays by the sea, after work drinks on the river and Londoners are without a doubt much happier folk we’ll all agree. But if we’re stuck indoors with the windows firmly shut, shivering in minus degree temperatures, if you’re not careful you end up missing out completely on the changing seasons.
Maybe I’m being a touch melodramatic but if one thing’s guaranteed to bring out the fighting spirit at Circle Square, it’s Windowgate!
