20th Jul 2011 - News International – Is this public debacle going too far?

We all agree that the whole hacking scandal is an appalling betrayal of the presses freedom but this whole affair does have the feel of a Witch-Hunt. The heads that have rolled so far are just the tip of the iceberg and more will come. I can’t help feeling that publicly humiliating the Murdoch’s is not the right way to go.

Let’s look at the fall-out:

1/ News of the World closed;

2/NI has not only effectively been forced to drop their bid for BskyB but they may well be forced to sell their existing share depending on the competition commissions conclusions;

3/News Corp’s board which owns NI is seriously considering replacing Murdoch senior with another board member;

4/James Murdoch’s career within the group is now pretty much ship-wrecked;

5/ There have five arrests;

6/ The Top policeman in this country and his deputy have resigned;

7/ The top tier of NI have resigned.

Haven’t enough heads rolled; hasn't enough damage been done.

Yes, I feel for the victims and compensation is due but it appears that the politicians have become the lynch mob by hunting in packs. This is for them and it’s not in the public’s interests.

The victims and Joe public need to know exactly who is accountable and how this came to be but this is a job for the police, surely?

As for the contagion spreading to Cameron; well he simply made an error of judgement; haven’t we all. Does this affect his ability to do his job: NO!

Let’s stop this public spectacle and let it go through the usual channels. I can’t help feeling that Westminster’s interference in this matter will only serve to compromise the police investigation in this matter.

This is a world full of different opinions; please leave yours.
