The position
The Accountant, Central Finance supports the Group Financial Controller in ensuring the finance team provides internal and external stakeholders with a best-in-class financial accounting service through the provision of accurate and timely reporting through a well-controlled and efficient accounting process.
The Central Finance team is headed by the Group Financial Controller (GFC) and comprises of two Accountants, the Assistant Accountant and the Business and Finance Administrator. All members of the team report to the Group Finance Controller.
The main responsibilities for the position include:
Reporting and Analysis
- Preparation of monthly, quarterly and annual financial reports to the GFC for presentation to management and for external audit purposes
- Responsible for preparation of group consolidation on a management accounting and statutory basis
- Managing preparation of all inter-group fees and recharges between all group companies
- Complete group VAT and FCA returns on a timely and accurate basis
- Assist with collation of information and presentation of forecasts and ensure forecast schedules are updated throughout the year
- Ad-hoc reporting as requested by the business
- Effective input and review of GL for all group entities, ensuring that the GL data is complete, accurate and delivered in a timely manner
- Responsible for balance sheet reconciliation processes on a group and company level basis, (e.g. investment, debtors, creditors)
- Provide effective operational cash management, cash flow processing and deposit management through maintaining a secure banking platform
- Develop better ways of working and assist the GFC with new initiatives to improve reporting and control
- Oversight and review of the work of the AA and the B&FA and ensure their technical development
We are looking for someone who is keen to further their chosen career in accounting and has the following experience and attributes:
Essential
Holds a technical accounting qualification (ACA / ACCA)
- Educated to a degree level or above
- Highly motivated, enthusiastic self-starter, who can add value as part of a team
- Highly numerical with an excellent level of attention to detail and accuracy
- Is well organised and able to prioritise multiple tasks to tight deadlines
- Is confident dealing with people at all levels across the business
- Willingness to learn and develop new skills / flexible ‘can do’ approach
- Experience within an in-house finance team or in practice with an audit background
- Highly numerate and proficient in Excel
- Experience of preparing management accounts and SUN GL (or a similar package)
- Asset management experience preferable but not essential
